In honor of the Great Falls Symphony's 50th anniversary, the Cascade Quartet and Chinook Winds are highlighting music from each decade in the symphony's history throughout the 2008-2009 season.

November's Chamber Music Series looks at the 1960s, with "String Quartet No. 11" by Dmitri Shostakovich, written in 1966. In addition, the Cascade Quartet will be joined by guest artist Su Suits, piano, on Gabriel Faure's "Piano Quartet in C minor."
The November concerts highlight music's unique ability to communicate. Both the Shostakovich String Quartet and the Faure Piano Quartet are deeply expressive works, speaking to audiences through their own harmonic language.
Written for violin, viola, cello and piano, the Cascade Quartet will be joined by Suits, whose past collaborations with the quartet have drawn rave reviews. In addition to her work with the Cascade Quartet, Suits has performed as soloist with the Chinook Winds, the Gallatin Wind Quintet and the Bozeman Symphony, among others.
The Cascade Quartet will perform this program twice — at 2 p.m. Sunday in the First Congregational Church, 2900 9th Ave. S., and at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 18 in the C.M. Russell Museum. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and are available at the door.
Before each Tuesday concert the C.M. Russell Museum and Penny's Gourmet offers Dinner at the Mint, a delicious pre-concert meal served in the Museum's Mint Cafe. Single dinners are available for $18 or a package of four dinners is $65. Dinner reservations are required.
