HELENA (AP) — Preliminary calculations from the state Revenue Department indicate the value of residential property in Montana has risen by 40 percent to 50 percent since 2002. The numbers vary a lot from one county to another.

Revenue Director Dan Bucks says final reappraisal numbers will be released next month and could differ from the preliminary figures.
The Schweitzer administration has said it will propose 2009 legislation to shield Montanans from increases in property taxes on average.
